How Do I Take Care of My Hair Extensions?

So you finally got the hair extensions you’ve been dreaming about, congratulations! and thank-you for allowing us to create it for you strand by strand. We put a lot of effort into creating this new love affair with your hair and you spent money on buying the hair extensions and getting it done. Consider this an investment in the best version of you so let’s work together to protect your investment:

  1. The right Products: please for the love of everything holy do not try to save money on shampoo and conditioner from Walmart, Costco or Shoppers. Nothing sold on the shelves there is going to work to keep the hair extension supple. You don’t have to buy product from us but we do carry lines meant to work with extensions like Davines (one of top favs) or Oligo. The only products you really need to take care of your extensions are a good shampoo, a good conditioner, a leave in conditioner and some shine drops (totally besides the point but these smell SO GOOD).

  2. Brush Your Extensions: and we don’t mean just throw a brush through your hair kinda brushing. Take your time, brush it through then go through each installed row gently brushing. If not, it will cause the extension to become tangled and matted.

  3. Do Not Brush Out Your Hair Wet: yes we want you to brush it but brush it out when it is dry not wet. It is heavier when it’s wet and the extra weight will pull at the installed row.

  4. Absolute No No’s: again you spent a lot on money on your new extensions so don’t use this as a gentle suggestion. Doing any of these will ruin your extensions very quickly: do not go to bed with your hair wet, get chlorine in them from swimming (it will dry them out and change the colour). Everyone loves Olaplex for their hair but your extensions won’t, it will dry the extensions out causing them to become brittle. Do no blow dry your hair upside down, it will become matted.

  5. Absolute Yes’: now you know what not to do let’s talk about what you can do to keep your new extensions happy. A silk sleep bonnet, yes a sleep bonnet ( if you don’t have one ask us and we will give you one). Let your hair air dry as much as you can before blow drying it Shampoo your scalp, there’s no need to shampoo the extensions - it’s real hair but it isn’t your real hair so there isn’t any oils coming from your scalp. Keep your maintenance appts no longer than 8 weeks, you are not saving money by pushing out the appts longer.

  6. Heat Styling: yes you can heat style your hair but use a heat protectant so protect the extensions.

  7. Do a hair mask once a week, we love this one and your hair extensions will love it too.

Ok! that’s it! it sounds like a lot but give it time and it will become second nature. We are always happy to answer any questions you have about taking care of your extensions and we’ll see you in 8 weeks for your move up.
